Seeing new customer acquisition slow down after the iOS privacy changes, Hydronize realized it needed a better way to grow sales. They used Apteo’s automatic customer segmentation and cross-sale product recommendations to grow repeat sales.

What the owners of Hydronize quickly realized was that the old way of growing sales was no longer going to cut it. With Apple’s new iOS changes and Chrome’s upcoming removal of 3rd party cookies, they could no longer rely on using their old paid advertising tools.
Like other ecommerce marketers, they suspected that zero party data (information that their customers provided, like email addresses or phone numbers) and first party data (information that they observed about their customers, like the products they browsed or purchased) could be used to remarket to their existing customers.
They knew that they could start to segment their customers in Klaviyo and send them emails, but they didn’t have a great sense for how to segment, which customers to remarket to, or how to target those customers. That’s when they turned to Apteo to get ideas on which products to cross-sell to their existing customers.
The founders came across Apteo on the Shopify app store and decided to see if any of Apteo’s automatic segments might be able to help come up with ideas. They quickly found that there were many different groups of customers who were likely to buy new products based on their previous purchase history.
They chose a couple of segments of customers with cross-sale recommendations to sync to their Klaviyo accounts so they could send these customers an email with a discount for the products they were recommended to buy.
After creating a flow that targeted customers from these segments, they started to see sales come in and customer lifetime value increase.
After running their campaigns for a few months, they saw open rates reach 50%, with some campaigns reaching 14% click-through rates. They also grew incremental sales and increased their reconversion rate by 20%. After seeing these results, they decided to set up new email flows based on several other Apteo segments.
Going forward, the Hydronize owners plan on targeting each segment with a combination of personalized messaging, discount ladders and new incentives. By using their own data to target customers, they're looking forward to seeing an increased customer lifetime value and building astronger relationship with their customers.
